Team FSR all took part in Thursdays test session. Two twenty minute sessions saw the team all struggle a little for pace and finished the day around the middle of the pack. Ant did not want to be this far down the field, especially with the all important qualifying just a day away.
Saturday saw a bit of setup change prior to qualifying. This obviously paid off, as Ant pushed hard and was rewarded with his highest qualification place of the season. He had taken a whole second off his lap time since testing and was a massive four tenths quicker than his nearest team mate. This meant he would be starting from 7th on the grid for Saturdays qualification race.
Ant had a bad start in the race and dropped down to 11th position by the end of the first lap. It looked like all his hard work was going to be undone, but Ant had different ideas, he battled back and worked his way back up to 7th place by the end of the race, showing excellent race craft and determination.
Sunday saw Round 6 of the Clio Cup pushed back in the timetable for the day due to weather issues. When the drivers eventually got out they realised how bad the track was, there were rivers running across the circuit at the old hairpin.
Scragg lined up on the grid in 14th and got quite a good start, he pulled alongside Johnny Fildes on the run down towards the first corner but Fildes squeezed Ant on to the grass so Ant had no choice but to tuck in behind him. Ant made up one position when one of the front runners slipped off on the opening lap which put him up to 13th. Two laps passed and nothing changed. However Neil Dymond was closing in on Ant and as they finished lap 3 Ant had a little tap from behind which sent him sideways on the greasy surface. The pressure was starting to mount and Scragg made a small mistake under braking at the high speed Craner Curves, he locked the wheels and received another bang from behind which sent him through the gravel narrowly missing the barrier. The marshals pushed Scragg's car back and he managed to get going again but by this time he was over half a lap down on the pack and was sitting in 25th.
This didnt change for the remainder of the race and thats Where the youngster finished.
Scragg was throughly disappointed that his weekend had finished in this fashion, but he took a lot of positives from the weekend and accepted the encouragement from the teams driver coach, Steven Colbert. He now knows he is knocking on the door for top ten finishes.
