Thruxton - Round 3

On to round 3, the exciting Hampshire circuit. The clios had already tested here which meant going straight in to qualifying on Saturday morning.

Ant was excited about racing here as he had showed quite good pace here in the test day. However, his qualifying slightly let him down which meant starting nearer the back than the front. Again Ant managed to make up some positions in the short Saturday race but a 16th place finish meant he would start 32nd out of 38 in Sunday's point scoring round. His goal was to earn some points, which wouldn't be easy from his starting position.

Ant got a good start and leap frogged to 26th, with the help of some first lap incidents and good overtaking moves. The remainder of the race saw Ant reeling in cars and moving up the field. Although all his work was nearly undone when he dropped a wheel on to the grass at the super fast Goodwood corner, Ant showed his talent when he rescued an almighty sideways slide which threw him on to the grass over the bumps and narrowly missing the barriers.

On his return to the circuit he clattered an advertising board which didn't help his cars performance. During all this one of the cars that Ant had passed regained his position. Ant clawed his way back on to James Law's bumper and overtook him with a tidy move up the inside at the complex. Ant was now in 21st and gaining on the last point scoring clio, who was dicing with Zorba, Ant's team mate. But due to a red flag the race was stopped short and he had just missed out on some points.

Not the best weekend for Ant, but another clio race under his belt and some priceless experience gained. Again Ant showed brilliant 'race pace' which would suggest him being higher up the pack than his final position. The young racing driver concluded that with a stronger qualifying session he will be able to hold his own at the sharp end of the field.
